I once heard a moving story about a mother. Two children were drawn into the flood and the situation was very dangerous. Their mother jumped into the water without hesitation. But the mother couldn't swim at all. Jumping into the water means she might lose her life. But at that time she had no time to think about herself. She just wanted to try all means to save her children. Maybe her courage touched the God. The miracle happened. She finally succeeded in saving her both children. And she, of course, felt extremely exhausted.
My friends, mother’s love is the greatest love. Mother’s love is the safest love. No matter you are happy or depressed, rich or poor, mother’s love will always stay with you.

the cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. but again, the cynics are wrong. we care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.
as college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. we all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. i believe in all my fellow classmates. though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. i believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. we are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. i believe in our future.

Well, our first destination is, surely, the landmark of beijing, the symbol of the 5000 years’civilization—the forbidden city—where the emperors and empresses of the ming and qing dynasties lived, and it’s really grand. it was renovated recently because of the coming olympics.
The second place we are going to is the great wall. this is the only building, i hear, that can been seen from the moon, and it represents the diligence and the wisdom of whole chinese nation.
Now, it’s time for lunch. we plan to have… what? you say ”beijing duck”? yeah, right you are! we’ll come back to the center of beijing, and we’ll have dinner at “quanjude” restaurant. you can enjoy the most delicious chinese food—beijing duck, and you must be very pleased to hear this! then I’ll show you around the summer palace. It’s the royal garden for the emperors and empresses of the qing dynasty to pass the hot summers.

Ladies and Gentlemen, keeping optimistic, you will be able to realize, in spite of some hardship, there’s always hope waiting for you, which will lead you to the ultimate success. Historically as well as currently, there are too many optimists of this kind to enumerate. You see, Thomas Edison is optimistic; if not, the light of hope in his heart could not illuminate the whole world. Alfred Nobel is optimistic; if not, the explosives and the prestigious Nobel Prize would not have come into being. And Lance Armstrong is also optimistic; if not, the devil of cancer would have devoured his life and the world would not see a 5-time winner of the Tour De France.
A rose may be beautiful, or maybe not; that depends on your attitude only, and so does success, so does life. Hindrances and difficulties do exist, but if you are optimistic, then they are only episodes on your long way to the throne of success; they are more bridges than obstacles! I can never forget the summer in 1996. I went through an extremity of despair due to my failure in the National College Entrance Examination. It seemed that my dream of being a university student would never come true. One evening my father came and told me the story of Steven Callahan, who was crossing the Atlantic alone in his sailboat when it struck something and sank. It was a miracle that he survived and was found 76 days later(the longest anyone has survived a shipwreck on a life raft alone). Later in his narrative he wrote these sentences "I tell myself I can handle it ared to what others have been through I’m fortunate". Hearing these sentences I felt something important struck me. I belived my life would mot be that bad and it was proved to be true. Later during my study in the university I always told myself "I can handle it" when my own goals seemed far off or when my problems seemed too overwhelming and every time I said it ,I always came back to my senses. , I will tell the same story of Callahan to them. I just want to make them believe they can handle their difficulties because their circumstances are only bad compared to something better. But others have been through much worse. Then they will build up fortitude. So here, coming to us from the extreme edge of survival, are words that can give us strength. Whatever you’re going through, tell yourself you can handle it. Compared to what others have been through, you’re fortunate. Tell this to yourself over and over, and it will help you get through the rough spots with little more fortitude.
